From the moment we wake up to when we go back to sleep, our eyes are constantly taking in information about the world. 1. The eye works like a camera 

Our eyes focus light onto the retina, the same way a camera focuses light onto a photosensitive surface. In addition, our eyes would have 576 megapixels if it was an actual camera. 

2. The most common eye color is brown

Did you know approximately 55% of the world’s population have brown eyes? Our eye colors are determined by genetics because they dictate how much melanin is produce in our iris.

3. 20/20 vision means you have normal eyesight

Did you know having 20/20 isn’t anything remarkable? In fact, having 20/20 means you have normal eyesight. Basically, you can read a chart from 20 feet away in normal lighting condition.

4. Tears help our eyes from infection

Tears keep our eyes clean, moist, and filled with antibodies that fight infection. So any dirt and dust that managed to pass our eyelashes is washed away by our tears.

5. Eyes are the fatest reacting muscle

Did you know your eyes are the fastest reacting muscle in your body? Our eyes contracts in less than 1/100th of a second and carry out a total of 7 corresponding movements that allow you to trail moving objects. 

6. People with blue eyes share the same ancestors

Did you know we all had brown eyes? However, a genetic mutation occurred between around 6,0000 and 10,0000 years ago. 

7. Our eyes close automatically from perceived dangers

Our eyes will close automatically when there’s a sudden bright light or it detects an object too close to our eye.

8. We have 2 eyeballs for depth perception

9. Wider pupils suggest excitement

Having positive thoughts can serve to dilate your pupils. For example, when you look at someone you’re attracted to, your pupils will expand up to approximately 45%. However, having dilated pupils can also mean that you’re scared.

10. Human corneas are similar to a shark’s cornea

Did you know human corneas are similar to a shark’s cornea? They can be used as replacement in eye surgeries.
