Did you know the most common vision problems are refractive errors?

Refractive errors is commonly known as myopia, hyperopia, astimagtism, and presbyopia. The signs and symptoms of refractive errors include glare, squinting, haziness, eye strain, headaches, double vision, and blurred vision.

Here are the 4 common vision problems:

1. Myopia

Myopia or nearsightedness is a condition where objects up close appear clearly and objects far away appear blurry. Myopia develops in eyes that focus images in front of the retina instead of on the retina. This condition can affect both children and adults. It’s often diagnosed in children between 8 and 12 years of age.

2. Hyperopia

Hyperopia or farsighted is a condition where distant objects may be seen more clear that objects that are near. Hyperopia develops in eyes that focus images behind the retina instead of on the retina. This condition can affect both children and adults. If you have parents who are farsighted, you are more likely to develop the condition.

3. Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a condition in which the eye does not focus light evenly onto the retina. Astigmatism occurs when light is bent differently depending on where it strikes the cornea. This condition can affect both children and adults. It’s important to have eye examinations to detect any astigmatism early on for children.

4. Presbyopia

Presbyopia is an age related condition. Presbyopia is when the ability to focus up close becomes more difficult. Presbyopia occurs when the lens can no longer shape enough to allow the eye to focus close objects clearly. This condition can affect anyone over the age of 35.
