Our bodies get affected by what we do on a regular basis. The activities, social interactions, and food that we eat all affect us in different ways.

However, something that seems to get skipped over all the time is our vision, and the foods we intake affecting it. Our eyes are just like any other part of our body, and need the proper nutrition so they can function at their best.

Eating junk can not only make you fat, but also neglect some essential nutrients you may need for your eyes. We’ve put together a list of some common superfoods that give your vision the boost it needs.

Here are the foods for eye health & maintaining good vision:

1. Carrots, Spinach, & Other Leafy Greens

Like any balanced diet, leafy greens are a must. Kale and spinach have loads of Vitamin A, among other vitamins like C and calcium. Vitamin A helps our eyes to see in low light and at night.

2. Fish

Fatty fish such as tuna, salmon, and mackarel are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids help against macular degeneration, and are also a key component in the retina.

3. Zucchini & Brussel Sprouts

Swiss chard and zucchini contain an important antioxidant called Lutein. This is an antioxidant that helps our eyes produce pigments to shield against excess light. It’s a natural process that helps develop better vision.

4. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are rich in many different vitamins and minerals, especially for the small amount of volume that is a Chia seed. Relatively, they have more calcium than milk, more antioxidants than blueberries, and more omega 3 acids than salmon.

5. Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes and squash are filled with Vitamin A, Be careful not to get sucked into the French fries and frozen isle when looking for Vitamin A, and stick to natural, unprocessed potatoes and yams. Vitamin A deficiencies can cause a host of problems, and one major symptom is nighttime blindness, so make sure you have enough vitamin A in your diet.

These foods will help fight off cataracts and macular degeneration over time, and keep your eyes healthy and strong. Always remember that your diet can affect your mood, physical and mental state, and your vision, so eat healthy and keep your body at its prime and you yourself will SEE the benefits.
