Cleaning your glasses is a necessity to help you see more clearly. You should also clean your eyeglasses daily to keep them looking great and prevent lens scratches. There are plenty of wrong ways when it comes to how to clean your eyeglasses.
Follow these 8 steps to clean your eyeglasses without scratching or causing other damage to the lenses:
1. Wash and dry your hands
You should wash and dry your hands thoroughly before cleaning your eyeglasses. Make sure your hands are free from dirt, grime, or anything else than can be transferred to your lenses.
2. Rinse your eyeglasses
Rinse your eyeglasses using lukewarm tap water. Don’t use hot water because it can damage some eyeglass lens coating. Rinsing your eyeglasses will remove dust and other debris that can scratch your lens when you’re cleaning them.
3. Apply a small drop of lotion-free dishwashing liquid
Use a tiny amount of lotion-free dishwashing liquid or apply a drop or two to your fingertips to each lens.
4. Gently rub both sides of the lenses
Make sure you clean both sides of the lenses and all parts of the frame. This also include the nose pads, at the end of the temples, and the area where the edge of the lenses meet the frame.
5. Rinse both sides of the lenses
Make sure you rinse both sides of the lenses thoroughly to remove all traces of soap. You don’t want to leave any traces of soap that will cause the lenses to be smeared when you dry them.
6. Gently shake your eyeglasses
Examine the lenses to make sure they are clean. Then, gently shake your eyeglasses to remove most of the water from the lenses.
7. Carefully dry your eyeglasses
Use a clean, lint-free towel to carefully dry your eyeglasses. It’s important to make sure the towel is clean because dirt or other debris can scratch your lenses.
8. Examine your lenses again
If there are any streak or smudges, use a clean microfiber cloth to remove them.
